Press Release about CRESTA

The first exascale supercomputers are expected to arrive at the end of this decade.  These systems must deliver an exaflop - or a million million million calculations per second. A new consortium of leading European sites has come together to meet the challenge of delivering software to support and exploit these massive systems.

Two fo the CRESTA partners, Cray and EPCC, will be presenting a tutorial on Parallel Programming with Fortran Coarrays at SC11 on November 14th 2011. SC is the premier International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis.

HPCwireHPCWire highlights a report written by EPCC on Europe’s future HPC development and its economic importance to the region.

The authors echo many of the arguments made by other global organizations—that the key to competitiveness in coming years hinges on HPC and more specifically, on modelling and simulation.

The European Exascale Software Initiative (EESI) final conference will be held on the 10th and 11th of October in the World Trade Centre in Barcelona, Spain. EESI’s goal is “to build a European vision and roadmap to address the international outstanding challenge of performing scientific computing on the new generation of computers which will provide hundreds of Petaflop performances in 2015 and Exaflop performances in 2020.”

Further details can be found on the EESI website.
