Delivering an exaflop (a million million million calculations per second) by the end of this decade is the challenge that the supercomputing community worldwide has set itself. CRESTA brought together the world’s leading teams, organisations and individuals in the field to explore how the exaflop challenge can be met. The project finished at the end of 2014.

CRESTA focused on the use of six applications with exascale potential to develop an integrated suite of technologies required to support the execution of applications at the exascale. These applications ranged from biomolecular systems to fusion energy. Check out these case studies.

At the heart of the project was the co-design process. The co-design vehicles were closely integrated in to the systemware development, providing guidance and feedback to the systemware development work, which benefited from this development.

Details of the co-design applications can be found here and the systemware resources here.
